Travel information
Getting to Punta del Este
The airport in Punta del Este (PDP) receives very few international flights and they tend to be extremely expensive, so we strongly recommend flying into Montevideo airport (MVD) and travelling by bus or taxi from there to Punta del Este.
This is a 100 minute journey and there are frequent services between the two cities (see below). If you arrive a day or two early in Montevideo you will be very welcome to visit The British Schools, in the delightful area of Carrasco, a few minutes from the airport.
Another option is to travel to Buenos Aires, where you can also visit several LAHC schools, and then travel across to Uruguay by boat (see below).
The conference will finish on Friday evening, October 21st, in order to allow you time to reach Montevideo airport for Saturday flights from mid-morning onwards. But why not spend a relaxing Saturday enjoying Punta and fly out on Sunday morning?
Buses from Montevideo to Punta del Este
There are two bus companies that run regular services from Montevideo to Punta del Este, stopping at the airport on their way. The buses are comfortable and reliable, and the fare is approximately US$9 each way. We strongly recommend buying your ticket in advance using the links below to ensure that you have a place on the bus. The journey time from the airport for the direct services is approximately 100 minutes (try to avoid the longer route via Piriápolis). If you are travelling from the centre of Montevideo the journey time is another 30 minutes and the bus leaves from the Tres Cruces terminal. Click on the images below to go to the company websites.
Taking the boat from Buenos Aires
The Buquebus departs from Puerto Madero in Buenos Aires and has a direct service to Montevideo with connecting bus service to Punta del Este. The whole journey takes approximately five hours each way and costs a little over US$300 return (at today's exchange rate). Click on the image below to go to the Buquebus website.
Taxis
Airport taxis to Punta del Este are prohibitively expensive but an Uber will cost around US$100, so this is a good option if three or four of you are travelling together.
