Sofia Hughes starts as LAHC Executive Offic

LAHC is delighted to confirm that Sofia Hughes (far left) has taken up her role as Executive Officer.

Sofia, over the past few months, has been working closely with the LAHC Executive Committee, team and member schools to strengthen and continue our mission of sharing expertise for school improvement.

Sofia succeeds Alan Downie, who led LAHC with dedication and vision over the past decade and supported a smooth transition process.

Sofia also was also at the LAHC Annual Conference 2025 in São Paulo last month, where she met colleagues face to face - several of which she knows well, having previously worked in schools that are or were LAHC members.

Reflecting on her first weeks in the role, Sofia commented: "It’s been wonderful to reconnect with our member schools and to see firsthand the incredible work being done across the region. I look forward to visiting all our schools - which I plan to do by May 2027 - and continuing to foster collaboration and support within our dymanic and forward-looking network of international schools."

LAHC's priorities for the coming months include developing key strategic areas identified by the Executive Committee — including communications, the LAHC School Improvement Toolbox, and creating a strong, sustainable organisation — while listening and responding to member feedback.

We warmly welcome Sofia as Executive Officer and look forward to this next chapter in the association’s development.
